We were honoured to welcome Alinta from Indigenous Insights to our Children’s House for a beautiful and meaningful cultural experience, offering our children a special opportunity to connect with and learn about First Nations cultures.
Through singing, dancing, an ochre demonstration and the exploration of traditional artefacts, the children were introduced to the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, traditions and stories. These hands-on experiences encouraged children to engage their senses, ask questions and develop an appreciation for the knowledge and practices that have been passed down through generations.
The experience also provided an opportunity to explore the deep connections First Nations peoples share with Country, community and Mother Earth. Through these meaningful interactions, children began to develop a greater understanding of the importance of respecting culture, caring for the natural environment and valuing the diverse perspectives that enrich our community.
At Brisbane Montessori School, we believe that learning about First Nations cultures is an important part of nurturing compassionate, curious and respectful global citizens. Experiences like these help lay the foundations for understanding, connection and respect from an early age.
A heartfelt thank you to Alinta from Indigenous Insights for facilitating such a meaningful experience on behalf of Aunty Sharron Mirii Bell. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her knowledge and for the culture and wisdom shared with our children and educators.
