Learning In Action | QUT Centre for Biomedical Technologies

Secondary School Thursday, 11 June 2026

Our students immersed themselves in the world of science this week during a workshop at the Queensland University of Technology’s Centre for Biomedical Technologies.

The two-hour program introduced students to a university seminar environment, where they attended short presentations by PhD researchers working in fields such as biology and medical engineering. Students then explored the Kelvin Grove research laboratories through a guided tour and participated in a range of hands-on demonstrations, including bioprinting, 3D printing, and cell culture techniques.

As the QUT Max Planck Queensland Centre aims to train the next generation of scientists, this experience provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world scientific research and emerging technologies.

The workshop also strongly reflected the Montessori approach to education, which emphasises student agency, independence, and purposeful work. By engaging with authentic scientific environments and professionals, students were encouraged to take ownership of their learning, ask meaningful questions, and make connections beyond the classroom.

A huge thank you to the team at QUT for their ongoing support and for the important work they do in advancing scientific research and innovation.
