Transitioning to Lower Primary

Lower Primary Saturday, 14 Mar 2026

The transition from Children’s House to Lower Primary is an exciting and much-anticipated milestone for both children and their families.

In Montessori education, this transition reflects an important moment in the child’s development. As children approach the age of six, they begin to move from the first plane of development into the second. Their interests, ways of thinking, and social awareness begin to expand. Children who were once primarily engaged in concrete exploration of the world now begin to ask deeper questions, seek greater independence, and show an increasing desire to work collaboratively with others.

Lower Primary is thoughtfully prepared to meet these emerging needs. The environment offers new intellectual challenges, greater freedom paired with responsibility, and opportunities for imagination, reasoning, and exploration across the curriculum.

This video has been thoughtfully prepared to support our Montessori community by addressing common questions about the transition process and offering clarity, reassurance, and insight into what families and children can expect.

Our hope is that it helps families understand not only how the transition occurs, but why it is such a meaningful step in the Montessori journey.

We warmly invite you to explore our rich and expansive curriculum and discover the many learning opportunities available to students from birth to 18 years.
