Walking On Country

MITC Monday, 23 Mar 2026

To support the toddlers’ developing understanding of what ‘Country’ means to Aboriginal people, they have been going for walks on Country around the Children's House playground.

During their walks, the children explored and observed many natural elements. They found bright orange flowers from the African tulip tree, ant homes with busy ants, a fast brown moth, small lizards, a beautiful feather, some mud, and paperbark trees. The children carefully walked over tree roots, listened to a singing magpie, and noticed an old tree stump.

The children showed curiosity and engagement as they explored Country, noticing the plants, animals, and natural features around them.

This experience helped them begin to connect with the land and understand that Country includes the plants, animals, and living things that share the space with us.
