What is Montessori?

We are often asked, What is Montessori? The simplest answer is this: Montessori is a pedagogy - a way of being with children and adolescents that prioritises how they learn over what they memorise.
In Montessori, we are not trying to fill students with content. Instead, we prepare environments that invite them to grow themselves. Children learn through purposeful activity, choice, movement, conversation, and real responsibility.
The adult’s role is not to deliver constant instruction, but to carefully design conditions in which independence, curiosity, and capability can flourish.
When families understand the pedagogy, children experience greater consistency, clarity, and confidence. When we deepen our own understanding, we open doors for our children and adolescents to step through with courage.
In this video, we explore The Importance of the Three-Year Cycle, sometimes referred to as the ‘3 Es’ where children naturally progress in each class from Explorer to Experimenter to Expert, and why remaining in a classroom community over three years is essential for confidence, leadership, and deep mastery.
