Carolyn Saunders

Head of Children's House (Acting)

A passionate Early Childhood educator and an experienced teacher across many age groups for almost twenty years. Carolyn Saunders has been part of Brisbane Montessori School since 2017 and has worked in all areas of the school. Currently the acting Head of Children’s House, Carolyn has also served as Director to Children’s House classrooms where respectful environments are created to honour children’s intuitions and paths to independence.

Carolyn started her teaching career as a mainstream prep teacher and initially came to BMS as a parent. After completing a tour and class observation as part of the enrolment process, Carolyn was so impressed by what she saw, that she enrolled and studied to complete her Montessori qualifications.

“That day I sat in a Children’s House classroom felt like magic, every child was engaged in independent work across all curriculum areas. The director seemed to be everywhere and yet not needed anywhere all at the same time”.

Carolyn holds a teaching qualification and Montessori diplomas in 3-6 and 6-9 years. She holds a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner certificate and co-founded the Forest School program for Children’s House. Carolyn believes in the value of nature play to encourage a love for and understanding of the outdoor environment.

A committed lifelong learner, she is currently studying her masters in inclusive education.
